Professional Short Course: Union Right of Entry

Join CCF QLD and Mills Oakley for the 2023 Professional Short Course Series.

Being confronted with a union official demanding entry to a worksite can be a confronting a confusing experience. With a complicated, ever-changing, and multi-layered set of laws around the rights and powers of union officials at work sites, the legalities around allowing a union official on site or refusing entry can be a quagmire in and of itself, to say nothing of what powers, rights, and obligations union officials and employers have once entry has been granted.

• The Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Ltd is pleased to partner with Mills Oakley to deliver a masterclass in union rights of entry, covering:
• The legal basis for the right of union officials to enter premises under industrial and WHS laws;
• Who may exercise these rights, and how to identify them;
  
• When union officials must give notice of entry, and what requirements must be adhered to;
• The rights and powers of union officials under each entry power;
• What recourse may be had when union officials exceed their powers; and
• How to deal with unexpected union visits.

Alexander Millman (Senior Associate – Workplace Relations, Employment and Safety) will lead a 1.5-hour session through the above points, concluding with a mock right of entry scenario to demonstrate these principles in practice.
