NEW HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE REQUIREMENTS HOME > NEW HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE REQUIREMENTS

Amendments passed in 2017 require PCBUs to provide Workplace Health and Safety Queensland with a list of health and safety representatives (HSRs) and deputy HSRs for each work group, and copies of provisional improvement notices issued by their HSRs.

Although the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 already established a framework for health and safety representatives to actively assist in keeping their workplaces safe, the amendments now have these specific requirements:

  • section 74 requires a PCBU to provide the Regulator a list of each HSR and deputy HSR (if any)
  • section 97A requires that as soon as practicable after a HSR issues a provisional improvement notice to the PCBU, the PCBU must provide the Regulator a copy of the notice.

PCBUs must notify WHSQ by emailing WHSnotification@oir.qld.gov.au or calling 1300 362 128. The following information should be provided:

  • name of HSR
  • name of work group
  • contact phone number
  • work address
  • email address
  • date elected
  • copy of any provisional improvement notice issued by your workplace’s HSR and details of its status (i.e. completed, withdrawn, ongoing). The copy must be provided as soon as practicable after the notice is issued.
