North Brisbane Bikeway Stages Two and Three
Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council (BCC) have reached an agreement which will allow the delivery stages two and three of the North Brisbane Bikeway. The dedicated bikeway was critical for greater Brisbane and will connect the CBD to Chermside. Separated bike facilities reduce the need for the interaction between motorists and bike riders on roads and with pedestrians on footpaths, improving the safety, comfort, amenity and travel times for all road users.
Tenders for these stages will be released later 2018 with community consultation to take place in coming months. Stage one of the North Brisbane Bikeway was completed in 2016 and connected Herston to Windsor, with stages two and three to connect Somerset Street in Windsor to Rigby Street in Wooloowin
Features of these stages include priority pedestrian and bike rider crossings at a number of intersections. These will operate similarly to pedestrian zebra crossings, giving pedestrians and cyclists priority over vehicles when crossing the street. Design works have also started on stage four which will connect Rigby Street to Price Street.
Further stages of the North Brisbane Bikeway from Wooloowin to Chermside will be delivered by Brisbane City Council, with the Queensland Government committing partial funding to the section of the bikeway from Price Street to Kedron Brook.
