Supply chain and work opportunities associated with a pipeline of more than $700 million in major construction projects were promoted to local businesses in Townsville Tuesday.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the final Townsville Industry Breakfast (TIB) of 2018 showcased key projects and investment opportunities that will help deliver economic growth and jobs for north Queenslanders over the next decade, including:
- The $449 million Townsville Hospital redevelopment
- The $193 million Port of Townsville’s channel capacity upgrade
- SeaLink’s $56 million ferry terminal redevelopment
- MBD Industries’ innovative prawn aquaculture facility at Guthalungra in the Whitsunday region
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick indicated major future investment in the defence sector, which will be driven by the Queensland Governments newly established North Queensland Defence Advisory Board, leveraging the Queensland Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan.
“The TIB series is part of my department’s support activities to inform regional businesses about project investment in the pipeline, industry outlooks, accessing new markets and winning business through tendering and supply opportunities.
“For five years now, TIBs have provided valuable networking opportunities for local businesses, and connected them with industry and government associated with many regional projects.”
