Planning Scheme Policy on Open Space – Adopted and Commenced
Mackay City Council adopted the Planning Scheme Policy 6.16 – Open Space with a commencement date of August 24, 2018.
The compact 13-page policy sets desired standards for provision of open space and will be used when assessing development under the Mackay Region Planning Scheme.
The policy provides certainty and guidance on the provision of recreation parks, including minimum requirements for their size, performance and embellishments.
Council last year adopted a new unified Mackay Region Planning Scheme, replacing three previous schemes. This policy now provides a consistent approach to the provision of accessible and well-designed parkland under the unified scheme.
The open space policy is available for viewing or download on council’s planning scheme webpage.
