Confirmed Speakers


MATTHEW PETER

Matthew is Chief Economist for QIC, one of Australia’s largest institutional funds managers, where he oversees global economic forecasting and research.

Matthew previously worked with fund manager TGM, where he headed the economic and financial-market forecasting team.

Prior to joining TGM, Matthew was Senior Research Fellow at Monash University.  Here, he led the development of a regional model of the Australian economy.  This model is widely used by Federal and State Government agencies and by most large consultancy firms.


ROBERT SOBYRA

Robert Sobyra is Executive Director, Research and Planning with BuildSkills Australia. A leading thinker on jobs and skills, Robert is responsible for driving the workforce planning agenda for the national built environment sector. Robert is also a postgraduate researcher at the University of Queensland with a special interest in regional economic growth.


THE HON JARROD BLEIJIE MP
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations

In his role, Jarrod explores opportunities for new industries and economic growth across Queensland, delivering infrastructure that benefits communities across the State. He has spearheaded the appointment of the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority to conduct a 100-day infrastructure review in preparation for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ending nearly four years of chaos and indecision from the previous Labor Government.

Jarrod is also leading the State Government’s activation of housing supply, chairing the Cabinet Housing Ministerial Taskforce Cabinet Committee, charged with unlocking church and charity-owned land to alleviate the housing crisis and deliver the Government’s commitment to build 1 million new homes by 2044.


KIM HETHERINGTON

Kim Hetherington is the Director, Workforce Capability, leading CSQ’s specialist workforce planning services, data, and research teams. Kim is responsible for strategically monitoring major project activity across the state, identifying opportunities to support labour and skills interventions via workforce planning activities - programs and services that are shaped by identified trends and themes.  Kim brings over 25 years’ experience in learning and organisational development, workforce planning, operations and project management; accrued from roles in mining and resources, civil infrastructure, building and construction, energy, telecommunications and science. She has worked in the private sector and state and federal government, and is passionate about infrastructure projects that create long-term, positive impacts for the community and the economy.


STEPHEN HULME

Stephen Hulme is the Director of Strategic Procurement in the Collaborative Project at the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Steve is a professional engineer with 20 years of experience in the procurement, design and construction of a wide range of infrastructure projects across Queensland.   

Steve has a passion for building sustainable roads, which has taken many shapes over his career including championing the use of recycled materials and decarbonisation; the development and consultation of technical standards; and most recently leading the collaborative project.   


KEVIN WALTERS

From player to coach, Kevin Walters has had an extraordinary career in rugby league. A key member of the Brisbane Broncos’ legendary premiership teams, Kevin led the club to 5 titles, with an incredible record of 6 grand final appearances. After retiring as a player, he transitioned to coaching, rebuilding the Broncos and leading them to a 2023 Grand Final appearance. With a wealth of experience as a coach for both Queensland State of Origin and NRL teams, Kevin’s leadership and legacy in the game are unmatched.
