Join CCF QLD for an open discussion during Safe Work Month: an initiative held nationally each year in October, dedicated to promoting safe and healthy workplaces for everyone.

This year’s theme, “Safety is Everyone’s Business,” emphasises that a safe and healthy workplace is both a fundamental right and a business advantage. It highlights how effective WHS risk management benefits individuals, organisations, and the wider community.

Explore our lineup of expert speakers and topics:

Dr. Drew Rae, Associate Professor at Griffith University’s Safety Science Innovation Lab and host of 'The Safety of Work' podcast, will discuss "Making Safety Work Meaningful." He will highlight the difference between "safety work"—tasks performed by safety practitioners—and "safety outcomes" in operations. Dr. Rae will address how disconnects between these elements can lead to ineffective practices and staff disillusionment, advocating for open discussions to improve the relevance and impact of safety efforts in organisations.

Scott Whimpey, Managing Director of First Aid Accident & Emergency, will lead a hands-on session focusing on critical first response skills for civil sites. His presentation will cover essential topics such as scene assessment, prioritization, CPR, and the use of defibrillators. Attendees will also participate in a practical competition to apply these techniques in real-world scenarios.

Georgia Gowen, Manager of Growth and Relationships at BUSSQ Building Super, will present on the importance of insurance coverage in high-risk industries. Georgia will provide practical insights into how proper insurance can safeguard you and your family, emphasising the value of aligning your super with the right insurance options. Attendees will gain key takeaways to ensure a safer and more secure future.

Kate Pollock, QLD Safety Manager at Haslin Constructions, will discuss her experiences and strategies for ensuring ongoing safety and health standards, extending beyond just National Safe Work Month. Attendees will gain valuable perspectives on creating a continuous culture of safety within their own organisations.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with industry leaders, share best practices, and enhance your efforts towards a safer work environment.

Registration is free for all attendees and a light breakfast, tea and coffee will be provided on arrival.

Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) and the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Limited (CCF QLD) invite you to take a leadership role in shaping the future of our industry at the upcoming BYDA Civil Construction Workshop. This event is an exclusive opportunity for civil contractors to engage with BYDA’s leadership team as we work together to identify how we can reduce utility damages and enhance safety standards.

Building on the success of BYDA's Utility Industry Forums over the past year, this interactive workshop is designed to foster meaningful collaboration and innovative problem-solving. We've identified key challenges facing those working around utility infrastructure—such as the inadequacies of current PDF plans, the digital transition, and critical education and skills gaps within the workforce. Now, we seek your leadership in addressing these issues, ensuring that our industry is equipped with the knowledge and expertise needed to drive positive change and enhance safety.

Our aim is to create a unified strategy that not only addresses immediate concerns but also drives long-term improvements across the industry. We believe that, by working together, we can map out the solutions required to minimize risks and protect worker and public safety more effectively.

BYDA and CCF QLD are committed to partnering with forward-thinking organizations that are ready to lead the charge in managing utility safety risks and achieving better outcomes for everyone involved. Your insights and experience are crucial to this process.

Join us and be at the forefront of driving change and innovation in the civil construction industry.

The civil infrastructure industry is at a pivotal time in late 2024 ahead of the Federal election. We have been building for years at the State level, with this year seeing much momentum at the Federal level fighting for our industry and working with the Federal Government to bring our industry into the spotlight in full focus.

Ahead of the Federal Election our industry has the ear of Government and as such, Civil Contractors Federation Australia in conjunction with our State CCF Branches is pleased to announce the return of the CCF Australian Infrastructure Summit scheduled with the National Earth Awards in Canberra, Australia from 21-22 November 2024.

Coming together ahead of the Federal election our Summit brings our industry to the national capital for our CCF Contractor and Association Members to engage with government, stakeholders and decision makers to reprioritise and focus the country on the role of civil infrastructure as the missing link. Its also time to celebrate and be proud of what we are as an industry in sharing our best practice in our day conference and to come together for the 2024 National Earth Awards.

The theme for the 2024 CCF Australian Infrastructure Summit is Keeping it Civil - CCF Members Connecting, Collaborating and Constructing Great Australian Communities. This theme invites participants that play a deep role that civil (roads, highways, subdivisions, bridges, rail, electricity generation/transmission, pipeline, water, sewerage) plays and helps us substantiate to our nation’s decision makers through to everyday Australians that our Industry plays in constructing communities.

The Summit will commence on the Thursday with focused workshops and Site Visits offered for Members (with numbers limited). With our industry gathering at the National Museum of Australia for the Welcome Cocktail Reception event on the Thursday evening.

Then, Friday will kick off with a Future of Civil Outlook Breakfast, followed by the full day conference agenda, networking lunch, a Trade Show, afternoon program as well as the National CCF Earth Awards Dinner.

The CCF National Earth Awards are the most prestigious awards in civil infrastructure with the specific aim of recognising excellence in civil construction. The awards showcase a range of projects across various disciplines including roads, bridges, drainage, rail and utilities.  Winners of the State and Territory CCF Earth Awards progress to the CCF National Earth Awards, so the National Earth Awards are effectively recognising the ‘best of the best’ civil construction projects around the country.

The QT Canberra is within a short walk to dining and shopping precincts and is easily accessible by public transport to the National attractions including Questacon, National Gallery, and War Memorial.

Click here to visit the official event website for further information and the program. N.B. CCF QLD cannot assist with enquiries or bookings. Contact the event organisers via the abovementioned website for assistance.
